Ice skating is a sport in wich a skater moves over a smooth surface of ice on ice skates. Ice skates are boots with blades that are attached to the bottom. People usually skate on natural ice surface like frozen river and lakes, or on a created rink both indoors an outdoors. The rink cab be used for both a competition and recreation. I bet you have ever watched this sport.
HISTORY
It is not known when people started ice skating. But it is believed that people have been skating for quite a long time. The first skates were not like the ones people use nowadays. The first skates were made from bones. Now, people use steel skates. They were invented by John Forbes, an American, in 1867. The first ice skating championship was held in 1891 in Europe. But it was only for men. Later on, there were championships for women.
